This topic of how TCG relates to demon hunters has popped up one or twice, so I thought it was worth a thread. For those who have no idea what I'm talking about, www.wowwiki.com/Demon_hunter
The relevant bits I think is the very first lines:
"Demon hunters are dark, shadowy former warriors who are shunned by the greater night elf society. They made a pact, long ago, to fight against the forces of chaos using its own terrible powers against it. "
The Guardians are traditionalists (in line with 'the greater society') and sworn enemies of dark magic. The way I see it, this means that demon hunters are just another face of corruption. They are less dangerous since they also fight darkness, and so eliminating them isn't a priority -- but they are definitely abominations, and they are definitely enemies of the Balance who deserve no admiration for what they do. This seems to be supported in lore, since Malfurion Stormrage, who set most of the Cenarion Circle's and thereby the Guardians' core values, imprisoned Illidan for millennia for turning to dark magic. It also seems supported in Guardian lore, because the guild's founding player Illidor worried quite a lot about how his interest in demon hunter RP would fit with the guild's new hardline traditionalist approach.
We both had a hard time seeing a demon hunter, even an aspiring one, as a member of the Guardians. Though demon hunters would call their approach fighting fire with fire, I think fanatics like the Guardians would say that just makes an even bigger fire. This doesn't mean we couldn't fight beside one in dire circumstances -- Heian, a death knight, has helped us too when we've had no other option. But we don't like him, we don't trust him, and though the player is a great player and a great guy OOC, he agrees that his character should never ever be allowed to call himself a Guardian.
To me, from a Guardian eco-Taliban point of view, demon hunters seems rather like death knights, except that they actually chose to become corrupted. Thoughts, additions, opposing views?
